Mentoring

New Talent

Knowing how important getting relevant help and advice is, Rakish Heels are actively involved in supporting emerging brands, through our links with the British Footwear Association http://www.britishfootwearassociation.co.uk/.

We approached them in 2011 and since then have worked together on developing mentoring programmes for  a wide selection of existing brands and up and coming new designers….

Rakish Heels design consultancy

Rakish Heels Design are a consultancy specialising in footwear and accessories.

Established in London in 2002 by Lona Jones (see below), We’ve worked with many top brands in the UK, US and further afield.

Whatever you want to know about shoes and how to make them we can tell you. If we can’t we know someone who can! Our experience crosses many product areas from technical sport to luxury fashion and not just for women, we also design shoes for men and children.

We enjoy working closely with customers researching trends and concepts to develop a complete range of designs and colourways. Our experience working with factories across Europe and the Far East enables us to communicate effectively with them, giving them full technical material specifications and checking all stages of prototyping up until they make lovely finished shoes!

We can also design soles, heels, and trims providing full technical specs and work with last makers to create new or amended models.

Lona Jones profile

I’ve been involved with shoes all my working life which is now quite a long time! Having studied at Leicester polytechnic ( De Montfort university) and received the Royal Society of Arts bursary award, sponsored by Clarks, I went to work for them straight from college. After four years I went to London and never left. Initially I worked for Pentland and their many brands (Ted Baker, Kickers, Boxfresh amongst others) and then in 2002, I set up Rakish Heels Design.

In 2007, I launched the premium ladies brand, Rakish Heels, dedicated to producing uniquely styled, high quality ladies shoes with a focus on the heel. I’ve taken a little breather from this recently to accumulate funds!…and to focus on the consultancy.

Ziggy – a Rakish icon.

In 2009, we decided David Bowie’s alter ego Ziggy Stardust would be a major influence on our Autumn/Winter’09 collection. Our trend board strongly featured the lightening imagery which eventually appeared on the Ziggy heel and as part of the upper patterns.

The Ziggy collection consisted of a 1940′s inspired platform shoe with a sculpted platform and a calf length boot. For the first season we launched a black and electric blue version of both styles in peachy soft kid suede.

For the following summer 2010 we added two other colours, Fuschia suede and chocolate /gold leather.

Of course both styles featured our removable heel covers allowing the wearer to decide how the shoes should look.

Either with printed heels on show or covered with a decorative leather sleeve.

Kate Nash championed our Ziggy boot in her 2010 video kiss that grrrl. With the theatrical circus setting and her sequined basque, our boots could have been made for her!

Although all of the boots and shoes in electric blue and black have long been sold,  we’ve been raiding our archive and still have 3 pairs of brown leather and 1 pair of fuschia left. http://www.rakish-heels.com/product.php?xProd=36&xSec=16
